Reuse ocean plastics for new materials

Repreve

REPREVE turns recovered plastic bottles into materials used for athletic and fashion apparel. It has recycled more than 20 billion plastic bottles so far, and produces recycled materials for a range of brands, including Patagonia, Ford and Fitbit.

How does it work?

Recovered plastic bottles and industrial plastic waste is melted down and used to produce a range of fibres for different uses. These fibres are customisable and can be adapted for a range of uses, from sportswear to car upholstery.

Who is doing it?

Textile manufacturer Unifi created Repreve in 2007. Now, more than 100 brands are using Repreve’s materials in their products.

Where to start?

Repreve is an option for brands looking to source more sustainable materials. It also provides certification of products for retailers looking to boost their credentials in this area.
